good linux distro for kids?
I was wondering if anyone knew a good linux distro for a 5 year old girl?
I have a spare tower laying around and was going to set it up for my daughter. I was looking for something with games she could play and good parental controls so she dont run into stuff on the web she dont need to. Any ideas?

Well, I'd point her to Linux from Scratch and see how she gets on.

You probably want Ubuntu though - I'm told It's easy to install etc.

Really though, its your desktop environment that will 'provide' the games. Either Gnome or KDE come with some bundled so pick whatever distro suits you.

Knoppix for kids: http://www.osef.org/

Debian Jr http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-jr/

Although you are probably just as well going with one of the big distros. Ubuntu or SUSE maybe. Although I've fallen out of love with SUSE myself. They should all have large repositories of educational and gaming software. I'm not so sure about parental controls. I have the ability to block sites on my router, or you can do it on the host machine by just routing bad sites to 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file. I'm sure there are more advanced approaches, but I've never used them.
